Adams Street Cherry Pie

There's something about locally grown cherries, tart, bright red, enrobed in a sweet vanilla and almond sauce, all wrapped in a flaky crust, that just makes my mouth water. And this version won a blue ribbon in 2008!

The element of surprise makes this pie a total delight. First, there's a hint of orange that enlivens the berries. Then the berries themselves are fresh, not baked, so they burst with flavor. They're nestled in a pre-baked pastry, top and bottom, and coddled in a shiny glaze. Took "Best of Show" at a state fair pie contest in 1999.

Big & Bold Rhubarb Pie
  • Prep Time: 25 minutes plus making crust
  • Baking Time: 50 minutes

Big & Bold Rhubarb Pie

Love rhubarb? This one will fill the bill, and then some! Recipe makes an 11 or 12" pie, enough for company, and is striking with the bright red filling bubbling up through your delicate lattice crust. A splash of orange juice makes it even more bold. Won a blue ribbon at the state fair in 2004.

Mambie's Apple Pie

My husband's Grandma, Mambie, had this fabulous pie at a restaurant in Santa Fe, NM. She asked the chef for the recipe and was told "no". This recipe was tucked into her bill. The restaurant is gone now, but the pie remains as our family's favorite apple pie. I have even made it in a huge sheet pan for my Mum's birthday.
